The church of Virgin Mary is located in the center of Paralimni. The original church, small in size, but imposing and solemn, is dated from the 13th century. Residents know it more as "Saint Anna", a name which was probably given to her, when the church was extended to its present form. At the initial stage it was aisle, a cross inside a dome, is a statement of the Orthodox Byzantine tradition, although it accepted elements of Gothic architecture, referring to the Frankish occupation of the island.
